Mercredi 18 Mai 2011 The elusive Quasimodo

That's it, 2nd time to Notre Dame & still no Quasimodo in evidence. We had had an email last night from work collegues L & J to meet today, but still up in the air re details when we left home this am. We wandered over to Rive Gauche  for cafe au lait & pain au raisin & finally found our favourite boulangerie from week 1 on Rue des Ecoles, & reaffirmed that yes, the pain aux raisin were up there in the top 2 & shop people really tres gentile, unlike a lot of other shop assistants in gay pari'.  Continued up Blvd Saint Michell & found La Poste for M to post some of her purchases back to Australia.

Text received & hung around Notre Dame waiting for L & J for a bit, but then got a text to say held up on metro, so we went into Notre Dame & enjoyed the choir which was singing, not sure whether they were any good or not, but they sounded magnificent in that building. Then did the bell tower walk up, 350 steps, but view amazing, could actually see our garret window, but camera battery went & I didn't get it, fully intend to go back. The quarter hour sounded while we were in the bell tower, luckily we are already deaf!

Our stomachs called & we headed up to recommended litle restaurant on rive gauche L'Ecurie, & really very enjoyable, tiny little  place, with tables here & there in what looks like an old stables, Had the menu, salad with bluecheese dressing, steak & frites (but nice ones, not like maccas), grilled steak tres bon with wonderful mustard sauce & chocolate mousse to die for - me & M had the creme caramel, mousse the winner! All for 11.50 euros & 5.20 for half a carafe of house wine, also good.
Luckily home was downhill & just back home loosening belts when got a text from L & J to say they were  on the corner of our street. We went down to meet them & headed off to the riverbank on Ille Ste Louis to make like the parisians do & have a little tipple on the banks of the Seine, grabbed a baguette on the way & we had brought some creamy bleu to go with it.  Sigh, all was well with the world as we sat on the bank watching the world go by. Caught up with their travels so far & exchanged stories, always nice to see a friendly  face when you are on the other side of the world. Cripes, that bank was like Rundle Mall in the school holidays by the time we left at about 8, L & J were off to try L'ecurie for tea & M & I home..... I think it must be generational thing!
