Go for the obvious, Tour Eiffel Thursday 5/5/11

Don't want the situation to arise in which we fanny about cafe-hopping & shopping for a month & miss out on the biggies, so left at crack of dawn (10am)  walked along Left bank of Seine to Tour Eiffel, with detours -  coffee, photos etc.  Funny the phenomenon of approaching the tour & it appears close & then disappears from view & when in sight again, appears smaller, (could be nonexistent navigation skills of course) Lots on interesting shops  - left bank of Seine has many antique / object d'art shops, slow going.

Most magnificent gilded roof of Les Invalides, huge spread of buildings devoted to things military, museums, etc, also hospital & retirement home for war vets.

Tour just as impressive as last time, certainly wait time in Q similar, 1 hour or so for ticket & then 30mins for the lift to the 1st stage, but excellent opportunity for people watching, lots of kids, struck school holidays for France, Holland, Sweden,, (and those were only the ones we spoke to, other EU countries may very well have been involved in the holiday-fest culminating at the Tour Eiffel on Thursday 5/5/11! Lot's of accents, most unfortunate being a woman from English north telling her brat off in most strident manner, quite a jarring note in the midst of all the exoticica (?)

pretty obvious

M at tour
From tour, Sacre Coeur just visible on horizon

From tour to Palais de Chaillot with Bois Boulogne middle distance & cbd in background

Towards Louvre

After tour, shared a serve of foie gras with warm apple chutney- yum , me margarita & M mojita to drink, very tres bon.
